THEA 222: Introduction to Theatrical Design

Through the course of the semester students will learn the basic principles of visual design and its applications to theatre. As a process based course, students will learn how to interpret scripts and collaborate on projects with regard to the four major areas of theatrical design: scenery, lighting, costuming and sound. Through various projects students will learn to collaborate with one another in the context of theatrical production. Areas of emphasis will include script interpretation as well as the visual representation of ideas. The successful student will learn to interpret and critically examine visual and aural design in theatre, and the world beyond.
