THEA 355: Theatre Pedagogy: Listening, Learning, and Leading in Community

This course will deeply examine theatre in three areas: Theatre with Young People, Theatre with Communities, and Theatre with Marginalized Communities. Hours will be split between time in the classroom and field work that provides hands-on experience. Classroom time will focus on learning from artist/companies that are innovators within these fields, in-depth dialogue, practical exercises, and conversations with local artists, activists, and community leaders. Field work will start with a time of intensive listening that will give you the space to build meaningful relationships, as well as learn about the community's wants and needs. This time will be followed by collaboration on an artistic project.
