This advanced media studies course focuses on the process of directing through the lens of a few respected directors of film, theatre and new media. Students will analyze fictional and documentary films and a piece of live theatre, read texts by and about directors, engage in directing exercises, and keep an artist's journal of their evolving process. This course focuses on US, English-language based media. That said, we will work to maintain a transnational perspective and individual projects on international directors or directing practices are welcome.
