The goal of this class is to expose you to arguments that great thinkers have made regarding the ethics of sex. We will begin the semester by investigating two different ways of conceiving sexual ethics: one in which sex is regarded like any other pleasurable activity humans can partake in, and one in which sex is regarded as “special.” Then, we’ll consider answers to questions about the extent to which the state may regulate sexual activity. After, we’ll consider whether sexual objectification and racial fetishization are morally permissible. And finally, we’ll consider whether monogamy and procreation are morally permissible.
