Requirements for a Major in Chinese Studies
A total of thirty-six (36) credits as follows:
1.Chinese 301 and 302 (Advanced Chinese)
2.Chinese 485: Senior Seminar
3. Students choose from one of the two concentrations:
A: Chinese Language, Literature, and Culture
1) Complete six elective courses from the list: CHIN 101, 102, 201, 202, 305, 306, 314, 315, 316, 317, 318, 320, 409.
2) At least two elective courses must be at the 300-level or above.
3) Chinese in Study Abroad credits such as CHIN 100, 200, 300 and 400 may be included in the major with approval of major advisor.
B: Chinese Studies
1) Complete four elective courses from the list with at least two of them at the 300-level or above: CHIN 101, 102, 201, 202, 305, 307, 314, 315, 316, 317, 318, 320, 409.
2) Complete two elective courses from the list:
- History 282: Traditional China
- History 283: Modern China
- History 481: Cold War in East Asia
- Religious Studies 258 Topics: History of Religions (Buddhism)
- INTS 261: Government and Politics of China
- INTS 262: China’s Foreign Policy
- INTS 263: Comparative Political Economy of East Asia
- INTS 264: China-Taiwan-US Relation
3) Chinese in Study Abroad credits such as CHIN 100, 200, 300 and 400 may be included in the major with approval of major advisor.
