ENVS 238 Blue Humanities

4

If you are interested in Environmental Humanities, this course invites a deeper dive into inter-disciplinary thinking with water. The human body is mostly water. The planet is mostly water. If water were our teacher, what might we learn? This course recenters attentions around our shared lifeblood to expand STEM frameworks through STREAM+ (rhetoric-reading+arts) by inviting collective thinking and engaging interdisciplinary co-teachers across campus. The classifications of “humanities,” “arts,” and “sciences” were not separated from the beginning of humanity, so how might we renew and reintegrate liquid ways of knowing? Special attention will be given to our Mississippi River Watershed that gathers waters across many states and provinces to nourish our home of Memphis. Water is strong enough to wear down stone, to quietly replenish earth, even to save someone from dying of thirst. What might happen if we reconnect with our blue natures?
