This course introduces students to analysis of remote sensing imagery, with a focus on imagery from satellites. The course covers topics including spectral transformations, supervised and unsupervised classification, change detection and analysis, and digital surface models. Students will also think critically about remote sensing data sources and land use/land cover categorization, the politics of visibility, and ethics in remote sensing. There will be an emphasis on real-world applications to research topics in multiple disciplines including, but not limited to, environmental studies, environmental science, urban studies, conservation, ecology, public health, and archaeology.
