This course explores the question “What is German?” through materials that engage with multicultural voices in the German-speaking world. This course is divided in modules, within each students will be introduced to the broader field of German Studies, while acquiring the language to discuss and write about a variety of subjects. The class materials will consist of a selection of prose, poetry, music videos, graphic novels, film, visual artwork, and other media that greatly exemplify the multicultural voices from the German-speaking world, including the immigrant experience and exile narratives. The language of instruction is German and corresponds to standard proficiency guidelines for "intermediate mid-high" (B1.1) language learners.
