In different ways, WWII is for Americans the war by which all others are judged. Responding to the attack on Pearl Harbor, fighting against unjust foes, and bringing freedom to the world are all achievements that inspire pride in America's military efforts. This course examines the history of America's participation in WWII and also the importance the war has had in American memory. From movies to memorials, students will look at a variety of evidence that shapes American ideas about America's "favorite war" and why its history continues to fascinate and influence.
