The Health Equity program at Rhodes prepares students to become skilled and compassionate healthcare providers committed to working with underserved populations. This course interrogates the role that implicit bias performs in the attitudes, practices, and policies of healthcare organizations and practitioners, a performance that results in diminished health outcomes for stigmatized populations. Therefore, this course will (1) foster an awareness of this reality and (2) guide students in the development of a set of personal skills and institutional strategies that will minimize the effects of bias and maximize equity in health outcomes.
