This is a one-credit, half-semester course that exposes students to a variety of issues facing the international community. Great Decisions, created by the Foreign Policy Association, is the centerpiece of the longest-running civic education program in the US dedicated to foreign affairs. The Foreign Policy Association’s mission is to serve as a catalyst for developing awareness, understanding, and informed opinion on foreign policy and global issues. The goal of Great Decisions is to empower participants to discuss forces shaping both US foreign policy and key aspects of international relations in a nonpartisan manner. Students are not expected to have any prior background in the study of foreign policy or international relations, and there are no prerequisites for this course other than an interest in these subjects and a curious mind. Faculty members of the International Studies Department co-teach the course. Each session consists of a lecture followed by a discussion (in large and/or small groups) or other activity.
