PHIL 228 Ethics in Action

2

Ethics in Action is an intensive applied ethics course that examines real-world moral dilemmas across various domains, including academic integrity (e.g., cheating, plagiarism), personal relationships (e.g., dating, friendship), professional ethics (e.g., medicine, law, engineering), and broader social and political issues (e.g., free speech, gun control, abortion). Students critically analyze contemporary ethical challenges while developing essential skills in public speaking, argumentation, and teamwork.

Students enrolled in PHIL 228 may also take the Ethics Bowl Practicum (PHIL 229), which provides hands-on preparation for competitive intercollegiate ethics debates. Those who complete both courses are eligible to represent Rhodes College at regional and national Ethics Bowl competitions. Successful completion of PHIL 228 and 229 (once each) fulfills the F11 credit requirement.
