This course introduces students to core debates in biomedical ethics. Each week, a healthcare professional will join the class to discuss an ethical challenge they’ve encountered on the job and invite students to weigh in. In grappling with these cases, students will develop the conceptual and analytical tools necessary for competent moral reasoning in healthcare settings—skills that also provide excellent preparation for the CARS (Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills) section of the MCAT and the Situational Judgment Test. Beyond honing their ethical reasoning abilities, students will gain insight into a wide range of healthcare careers and build connections with local professionals in fields such as pediatric and adult medicine, nursing, genetic counseling, forensic pathology, and clinical ethics consultation.
