PHIL 332 Animal Ethics

4

This course introduces students to current debates about our moral obligations to animals. What do we owe to the animals who show up as food on our plates, as research subjects in our laboratories, and as pets in our homes? Which, if any, uses of animals are morally wrong and which are permissible? What obligations do we have individually and socially toward animals and why? By the end of the course, students will have established their own considered positions on the appropriate moral treatment of animals.
