This course focuses on helping students acquire the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to interact effectively in diverse cultural contexts. Multiple pedagogical strategies are used to foster student growth including: (1) exposing students to interdisciplinary scholarship that contextualizes the experiences of people from diver se cultural backgrounds, (2) requiring students to continually reflect on how their own cultural identities have influenced their values, beliefs, and worldviews, and (3) providing multiple opportunities for students to practice and enhance their intercultural competence skills. Although the course focuses primarily on the experiences of diverse cultural groups within the US, the skills learned should be transferable across multiple contexts.
