To help students experience the artifacts of the Greeks and Romans and other Mediterranean cultures in the areas where they lived, AMS offers a number of opportunities for travel-study abroad. The department offers courses that involve travel and study in Greece, Italy, Iceland, and other countries in the Mediterranean and Middle East. Faculty members also contribute to collaborative initiatives that provide opportunities for research, and the department secures places for students in archaeological excavations and surveys, such as those at the harbor at Kenchreai, Greece. Finally, the college is a member of the American School of Classical Studies in Athens, which operates centers for study and research in Greece.
